Antique Staffordshire Confetti poodle spill vases. What is a spill vase? A spill vase was used to house “spills” which were tightly rolled pieces of paper or slim pieces of wood. The spills pre dated matches as a way to take fire from the source and bring it to light something else such as a candle or a pipe. Both vases have a Stafford knot on bottom. The knot stamp was introduced in 1845 and heavily used in the 1870’s and 1880’s. They are in excellent antique condition. Some minor glaze loss. When claiming choose vase A or vase B. Or better yet the pair! They’d be so charming kept together. They both have the same dimensions - 5.25”h 4.5”w 2”d.
